July events and content ideas for ethical and sustainable brands
what will you be posting on social media this July for your conscious business?
As the temperatures heat up (or cool, depending on where you live), and many people around the world take some time off, many brands will also be hitting pause on their social media.
If that is the rout you pick, that is perfectly valid. But for those of you who still want to post (perhaps just at a slower pace) to stay connected to your audience, or because summer is one of your peak business seasons, here are some international events coming up along with some ideas to make them your own on (and off) social media:
All month: #PlasticFreeJuly #PlasticFreeJuly2023 #PlasticFreeLiving
There are so many ways to incorporate this movement in your content but a few of my favorite are: your favorite plastic-free products, tips to reduce plastic consumption, the environmental impact of plastic, how you’re reducing plastic in your business…
Check out plasticfreejuly.org for plenty of additional resources.
July 3rd: #PlasticBagFreeDay
Talk about the environmental impact of plastic bags or share your favorite plastic-free shopping alternatives and ask your audience about theirs (fabric bag? straw bag? putting things directly into your car boot or bike basket?…)
July 11th: #WorldPopulationDay
Address some of the major issues & questions facing the world’s population as it continues to grow, and their ties to sustainability.
Check out the UN’s 17 #SustainableDevelopmentGoals if you need some extra inspiration.
July 15th: #WYSD World Youth Skills Day
Highlight the importance of equipping young people, especially in historically marginalized & oppressed communities, with skills for their future.
Showcase the skills of talented & inspiring youths.
The 2023 theme for WYSD is “Skilling teachers, trainers and youth for a transformative future”
July 17th: #WorldEmojiDay
Ask your audience to describe your brand, themselves, or their sustainability journey in emojis.
Talk about the importance of having more inclusive emojis.
Share an emoji-based riddle (bonus points if it’s eco- or social-justice themed!).
July 18th: #MandelaDay #MandelaDay2023
This year’s theme is all about inviting “the world to unite and act decisively against the consequences of climate change and food insecurity”.
Share a quote from Nelson Mandela & why it inspires you, resources and tips to help fight climate change and food insecurity, or what this year’s theme means to you & your brand.
July 30th: #FriendshipDay #InternationalDayOfFriendship
Share a personal story or quote about friendship.
Talk about its power to bring us together, break down barriers & create positive change.
Ask your community about their friendship stories.
Here are a few additional dates of note that you could give your own twist to on social media this July:
All month: Disability Pride Month
July 1-7th: Clean Beaches Week (US)
July 1st: International Day of Cooperatives
July 7th: World Chocolate Day
July 14th: International Non-Binary People’s Day, Shark Awareness Day, World Chimpanzee Day & World Orca Day
July 16th: World Snake Day
July 17th: World Emoji Day
July 20th: World Chess Day + International Moon Day
July 25th: World Drowning Prevention Day
July 26th: International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem
July 28th: World Hepatitis Day + World Nature Conservation Day
July 29th: International Tiger Day
July 30th: World Day against Trafficking in Persons
If creating social media content is not your area of expertise, you want a fresh set of eyes on your socials or you simply have too many other things to focus on while running your purpose-driven business…
